Monthly Reflection – October 2013

Dear all, I hope this month’s reflection finds you well.

Stop Look and Listen.

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tabernacle for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices like a strongman to run its race. Its rising is from one end of heaven and its circuit to the other end; and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

Psalm 19:1-6

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Romans 1:20

I was sitting in a Coffee shop in Sherwood Forest over the weekend with some friends; the weather hadn’t been all that great and the rain had been steadily falling. There was a brief break in the rain and the sun began to shine with shafts of bright sunlight breaking through the clouds reflecting off of the cobbles in the square outside the shop. As I sat and watched the sunlight beaming down it occurred to me how wonderful Gods creation really is- the absolute beauty of the trees all around us and the sunshine that made people stop, close their eyes, turn their faces skyward and enjoy the warmth of the sun. Do you ever stop to think about the things God has created?

It is a wonderful feeling to look or walk outside and know that we are seeing a glimpse of the glory of God. I’ve heard many people question how anyone could look at all there is in the world and the sky and then deny the existence of our Lord?  I believe we are truly blessed  to be able to see a glimpse of our creator in all the beauty we encounter every day. As this month goes on, stop for a moment and look around you. Look at the glory that is all around us- If you have children or grandchildren look at their smile when they see you, the trees, the clouds, the animals, the stars, the sun, a rain shower on a hot day, the moon and every little piece of life that you can. I drove to work this evening in the midst of a huge thunder storm- the very power displayed as the sky was lit up by the lightening was simply awe inspiring!

The scriptures are full of references to Gods glory being present in the things we see around us-In Colossians 1:16 it describes the supremacy of the son of God and that ‘for in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.’

In all three of these scriptures God is spelling it out for us- He is telling us that it is all there for us to see; no matter where we are from or what we do. Just as the sun is always there even if we cannot see it- God is there, all around us even though we can’t see him.  As Christians we need to take the glory of God to those in the world who are sad, lonely and lost- We need to share the wonderful message that God in his creation has provided for us all that we need on this earth and that he has provided for us the means to live in glory with him for all eternity- His son Jesus Christ who died on the cross to pay the price for our sins.  As we witness to others and give them the good news that Jesus is Lord of all the earth- the very Glory of God is evident in our lives and in the Love that we show to those around us. So this month Stop Look and Listen and be excited by what God has done and is doing in all of our lives and share that Love and Glory!

God Bless
